On my way to work this morning I found myself on the platform at Fulton Street when the first moment of silence was taking place. Fulton Street is just East of the WTC site. If you were wondering there was no noticeable difference in the noise level on the rush hour platform.

On September 11th we were living in Queens and but we were in the middle of our move to Brooklyn. I remember one of things I was looking forward to, was the commute through the Smith and 9th street station looking toward Manhattan. Like many views of Downtown though it was long time after that cool and clear Tuesday before looking out the window regained any form of pleasure.

This evening on the way home it was a beautiful sunset over the Statue of Liberty in the harbor. 5 years on the view out the window has become as routine as one could hope.

  1. In the second photograph, I like the shapes--buildings, windows, rooftops. I like the light. I like how I want to know about the lives within the many homes in the photograph.

In the first photograph, I like how the blue of the wall is picked up here and there by people in the gathering waiting. Blue as symbol of the victims "above the earth, toward the earth"--the blue holding them in their moment of flight.

  2. There's always a realism in your pictures, a sharpness to them that makes them look as if I could reach into the monitor and touch something within the scene.

  3. Is that me or 1 picture per day is not enough anymore ? :-)
Well I'm glad to be able to fullfil my addiction to your photoblog ! But beware, I can be able to ask you for more ;-)

  4. Ah! How I miss residing in New York City! Rush hour! Thanks! Very cool blog/photos!

  5. The first one is awesome. Your crowd shots always fascinate me. There's something about the group dynamic that you are able to capture that I think really says something about us as humans. That said, I have no idea what, but keep it up!

  6. beautiful photos in your photoblog
