N Train~ 14th street Union Square ~ 6:40pm

New baby. And within days of coming into this world, his first subway ride.

Two bits of news for those out there that might not be getting up to date info on what the Feds think about NYC. Homeland Security cuts 40% of Anti-terror funds for NYC.

And this, Subway attack plot..

  1. Before I saw the links above I had the same thought;

    I think anyone that wants to bomb the subway should be forced to ride it for at least 12-16 hours straight, not being allowed off until they realize what an asshole they are.

  2. I'm currently reading Pete Hamill's book "Downtown." I think this photo says so much of what he's saying about the stuff NY is made of. (And I love the faint smile of the woman standing up.)

  3. Each one of your images seems to tell a story .... the viewer can read his/her own thoughts into the faces that you have captured. This image speaks volumes!

    Your work always amazes me .... I've been viewing your photos for quite awhile.

  4. hispanic babies are the cutest :)

    this image says a lot..

    catching a convo.. i enjoy this one.

  5. I am Travis' "favorite" uncle! I taught him everything he knows! Hardly!

    Everytime I look at this photo, my eyes go immediately to the left hand of each of them. Their rings speak volumes. How amazing that the photo caught them such that both hands are so visible and revealing, positioned almost identically, enough to allow their bands to talk to us.

    I wonder, Travis, did you notice, when you had them in your lens, the rings? Or, did this just happen, like a surprise?

    Uncle Tex

  6. What a lucky guy I am to have so many favorite Uncles!! And all so smart! I have to confess I had to go back to the image to see what you were talking. Your comment is a perfect example of how we all key in to the elements of an image that speak to us personally. Your attention to the detail of their wedding bands says so much of your believe in the power of our commetment to each other--married, not married or even those that never meet each other. We all need to respect each other and care for each other.

    When I was making this image I was focused on this new mothers gaze and the fragitlity of the new born baby. What I couldn't quite get in the frame was their other daughter just on her left side of the frame. I also wish I could have shown everyone getting up for the family when they got on the train. For that I needed a movie camera. Maybe the next project.

    Thanks for checking in Uncle T!
