15th St. Prospect Park Station ~ 8:45am

When I started this project a year ago I had no idea where it would go, what it would mean, or even if anyone outside of my family would follow my daily commute. From the richness of the comments I have received on the anniversary it is obvious the images touch a nerve with many across the globe. Words cannot explain how happy that makes me. I've always believed that for there to be understanding between cultures we would need to communicate directly with each other, bypassing the powers that misrepresent our concerns and interests. If the continuation of this project helps in any way to remind others of the faces behind the numbers then that is all I need to hear to keep at it. Even thou these are images of the New York City subway, the scenes undoubtedly look the same in London, Spain, Tokyo, Bombay and all pointes in between. Weather it’s by train, car, camel or plane we are all forced to schlep off to work until we can return at the end of a long day to the joy of our home and family.

So on to act two.

Peace.
Travis

  3. Hi Travis,
I am glad you are continuing! I lived in NY until a few a months ago and had the same commute as you have (Park Slope 7th Av to 42nd St Midtown). I enjoyed your pictures tremendously during the last year, but now that I live thousands of miles away in a much smaller city in Eastern Europe (where there isn't even a subway), your photos are causing and easing homesickness, both at the same time. Thanks a lot!
Love that view of Propect Park, I really miss it.

  4. Let there be light. How apropos a shot to match your comments. Indeed if people, with the help of the internet, can circumvent power bases and develop cyber communities that transcend time and distance.

You stopped and took a deep breath at the one year mark, which is a good thing. But at the same time it made me a bit nervous. I do not participate in any compulsive behavior and I'm not much a creature of habit, but checking out your site and a few others has become a daily ritual of "feed the artistic soul".

Each photo is also akin to a good short story, leaving me to wonder about the characters long after they've moved on. Case in point - occasionally I wonder about the guy sitting alone with the little Christmas tree - in January! I'll never know the rest of the story.

  5. congratulations on your year in the subway!!! it's been a great ride.

  6. been following your pictures for only a few months. glad you are continuing! this picture is beautiful. makes me miss winters in the east out here in no-weather s. california.

This is a wonderful picture - without the subway sign, but you have made it yours by including the sign. I would love to be in NY in the winter!
