6 Train ~ Chambers St. ~ 9:10am

First stop for the 6 train. It's a good place to catch a nap while waiting for the train to start. Probably the last piece and quiet for this guy, for the day.

  1. Aside from being well-composed, I like the contrast in choices of transportation that this picture captures.

  2. Umm I thought the Brooklyn Bridge - City Hall stop was the last and first stop for the 6 train. nice pic, btw.

  3. Magic - I just love the 'Cyclist Instints' there with the hand holding the brake whilst drifting off to sleep. Im sure he would wake up if he felt his grip loosening :o)

  4. Dear Travis - Do you scrub the cars before photographing or are the subways really this clean? Ijust returned from a trip to Minneapolis, where sidewalks were pristine, not even a cigarette butt, no trash at all! Then, boarding the A train at Howard Beach upon my return, I was met with a wad of french fries, catsup-smeared waxed paper, an empty coffee cup, soda can and an unidentifiable sticky stain on the floor...
but they do love their bikes in Minneapolis - have these great bike racks on the light rail trains and lots of bike parking at the stations. Wish we had that here, so you would have to keep your hand on the brake.

  5. Amazing photo....The mix of shapes and angles, plus the look of contentment on the guy's face are fantastic. I like the fact that although he's snoozing and relaxing, he's also taken the time to keep a firm grip on the bike's brake..

    Good stuff!

    Cheers!

  6. Victoria,

The 2, 4, 5, and 6 trains (all using these cars) are generally kept amazingly clean. Now mind you, amazingly clean is a somewhat relative term, but compared to the rest of the subway, they're usually almost immaculate.

  7. The vertical lines in this photo are fantastic.

  8. I echo the comments about the cleanliness of this shot. I love your shots on the trains and the platforms. I would like to take similar shots on London Underground but a) I don't use it so much these days, b) people in London can be quite aggressively anti-photographs and c) the whole thing doesn't sit so well with people's fears after the recent bombs. What camera do you use to take them? More please!
