W Train ~ Canal St. ~ 10am

The W tran? This is an image from Friday. My Editor in Chief (my wife) insisted I post this image tonight. I had to go to out of my normal commute on Friday and found myself on the W. It was not intended. Which is typical of regular commuters. As soon as we go off our everyday route we're just as lost as a tourist. I jumped from train to train, until I had myself so turned around that I ended up on a W train headed back to Brooklyn before I could get myself straightened out. So this is the W crowd headed out of the city when everyone else is headed back in.

EXPRESS TRAIN NEWS. The NYC newspaper amNew York ("a daily newspaper in New York City that targets young, urban commuters"), is publishing an image from my blog on the front page of Tuesday's edition. Now if I can just photograph someone reading the paper on the train tomorrow. hmmm. Stay tuned.

  1. I love the blue light coming through the windows. Is that guy on a cell phone? Can you get a clear signal in the tunnels? Congratulations on having one of your photos published, front page even! Cheers!

  2. I too enjoy the blue light.

    Mighty clean subway car.

  3. The most fab website I've seen in ages :-)
    Ciao from Italy,

  4. This is great. I just moved out of the city and used to ride this train. Thanks for the memories. Congrats on the front page photo. I'm surprised they haven't approached you sooner. When does the book come out? : P

  5. i love it that everyone has their own cartoon character. super groovy!

  6. This photo made me laugh:)))

  7. I like the blue light from outside as well. Nice photo.

  8. Ilike to see how empty the train is as it reflects another side of the experience of how desolete it can be at times, especially nice after the recent photos of all the crowded cars Philip from Santorini Greece.

  9. The tone and composition are right on. Repetition of form abounds in the most unexpected of places. One expects to see repetition from the seats, bars and windows. What is unexpected, is the the repetition of cartoon characters. It's fantastic and I think it is what sets this shot apart...the unexpected.

  10. so glad i found this site. ive started snapping pics again and, bolstered by your images, have become a regular subway photographer as well :) thanks for the daily inspiration.

  11. Empty train for a change. Nice! Congratz on the front page! I like the blue light as well.

  12. Very nice photo...I've made this my computer desktop.

Although it looks like that the person is on the cell phone, they're probably not (I highly doubt it). They're probably tapping the earbuds on their headphones, but I don't know.
