Fulton Street station ~ 9:30am

One of my images has been posted on the home page for The Subway Chronicles, a very wonderful site for writings and ruminations on the NYC Subway. www.thesubwaychronicles.com

  1. I like this one. Thanks to his white shirt he stands out and is very present even when he is "absent" and dreaming. I don't leave much comments, but I'm a regular visitor. Very nice work!

  2. Men wearing suits and carrying backpacks look funny. :) I almost always carry a backpack with me but I'm starting to get self-conscious about it.

Anyways, congratulations for this photo and your photoblog. You manage to keep things interesting despite the recurring theme.

  3. Yet another fabulous photo! I love how the dark foreground, with it's slightly sinister, underworld mood, frames the white shirt.

  4. Oh I forgot to add, as I'm making this image I have two bulky, grumpy NYPD officers standing over my shoulder trying to read the print out I carry of the current laws governing photography in the subway. They kept stepping in front of me and I kept stepping around them. They were very annoyed. So was I, I'd been waiting for a long time for just the right scene when the police and train arrived at the same moment. In the end they left me alone but we had to really go through all the details before they gave up on me.

  5. I like this one a lot. There's that "something" that makes it neat.

  6. I like the distance between foreground and background. The shot seems to tunnel directly to the white shirt guy.

Travis, I hear ya about the NYPD officers issue. Good that you are educating them about certain apects of the law they may not be aware of. Understand that they are just trying to do their job, even if it is a little mis guided. I never complain about being searched or asked to much by officials, because I recall the images of the poor people jumping from the twin towers during 9/11.

Keep up the great work! We all greatly appreciate it!

  7. carrying around that printout is something all nyc street photogs should be doing, just in case, as you've found out. i haven't had a problem down here in philly just yet.

  8. An existential photo--
    man's isolation
    even within the crowd
