4th Ave Brooklyn ~ 9am

In a Station of the Metro

The apparition of these faces in the crowd;
Petals on a wet, black bough.

Ezra Pound

Such a beautiful poem.

  1. I love the feeling of emptiness given by the way you've framed the sky. Looks cold. Brrrrrrr!

  2. Very nice lines, like the shot a lot...

  3. Wonderful image. The white was v. confusing at first. Brilliant, as usual.

  4. I actually think I would have cropped it. For me, the story is the faces turned in hope of a train.

  5. well done! I love the composition that you have created :D

  6. This is so simple, it's great. Very different from the other shots I've seen in your site. The station itself almost looks like a train. I love the stark horizontal composition. Congratulations on a great idea and a great execution!

  7. Yes I agree, great framing here. It does give a cold feel which works well here, who likes to wait for the train?

    Great shot.

  8. ive been looking at this picture for nearly 10 minutes. i love this picture.
i have gone away and come back and looked at it some more. i think its the sky that really does it. fantastic. thanks for sharing it.

  9. alfr3do that was a very insightful comment about how the station starts to look like a train itself! That hadn't occured to me but now I totally see it. I had another frame that had much more foreground but I just wasn't drawn to it. Thanks for all the wonderful comments! I guess I should have just put the camera away after I shot this....

  10. Great job, Travis. This is my favorite shot from your site.

  11. Fantastic!
I wanted to say how your images, especially this one, has an isolated and desolate feel. It kind of reminds me of Edward Hopper's, or Georgio De Chirico's paintings. Just more startling in a way since there are people in your images, and yet it evokes an eerie quietness. The meloncholic figures you capture seem like ghosts of a big city or like colorful statues.

  12. I admire this photo very much.
